This directory contains the XYZZYnews magazine, edited by Eileen Mullin.

The individual issues exist in two versions: .PDF = Adobe Portable Document
Format and .TXT = plain ASCII text.  Both versions contain only text and
should be downloaded in ASCII mode. 

The PDF files are formatted documents that can be viewed on-screen and
printed out using Adobe's Acrobat Reader without requiring any supporting
graphics or fonts. The Acrobat Readers for various machines can be found in

Special notes:

- DOS/Windows:
  Some Acrobat Readers for DOS and Windows accept CRs or LFs as line breaks,
  but will print a warning message ("This file is damaged but is being
  repaired.") if both are used. To avoid this message, download the PDF
  files to DOS or Windows in binary mode, thus preserving the LF-only
  line breaks.

- Macintosh:
  The files downloaded to your Mac will lose their creator info, so the PDF
  files will appear as generic text file icons. Changing the file creator
  from ???? to CARO (using FileTyper or a similar tool) will display the
  correct icon and automatically start the Acrobat Reader when you double-
  click on the file; otherwise you will have to drag the file's icon on the
  Acrobat Reader icon to view or print the document.
